Technical data and services

Road bike route through Granada Sierra Nevada, is a circular route by road bike that crosses different regions of the province, crossing places of great historical-cultural and natural interest, along winding roads.

We leave from Granada, center of the kingdom of Granada in the time of the Muslim occupation, accompanied by the Alhambra and other historical monuments dotted around the city. We enter the eastern valley until the Sierras de Quéntar and La Peza already in the region of Guadix, one of the holes that form the rosary of depressions that are interspersed in the Betic Cordilleras, within a belt of mountains (Sierra Nevada, Sierra Of Baza, Sierra Arana and the Mencal) acquiring, due to its high average altitude, superior to the 900 m, almost the character of plateau. We now pass through the zenete region, with a landscape of contrasts between the slopes that prelude the Sierra Nevada and the arid lunar landscape of the Montes Orientales. Among the reddish hues of the Hoya de Guadix and the green valleys of the rivers that bathe the region, giving way to the Alpujarra, mountainous place and with sinuous roads, ideal for our activity. Due to their geography, especially mountainous, the villages have adapted to the unevenness, reason why their houses are staggered and oriented to the south, to take advantage of the good Mediterranean climate. The streets, cobbled and winding, invite to the walk, to breathe peace and tranquility. It really seems that time has stopped in the Alpujarra. We will leave by the valley of Lecrín that will take us back again to Granada. Come to know its valleys, its mountains, its culture, its gastronomy, do not miss it.

Alpujarra

The Alpujarra is a natural paradise formed by a series of picturesque white villages of great beauty that extend between the southern slope of Sierra Nevada and the Mediterranean coast, between the provinces of Granada and Almeria. An area of contrasts, with a rugged relief formed by valleys and ravines. By the Alpujarra have been passed Iberians, Celts, Romans and Visigoths, but it was the Muslims who left the greatest trace during his presence in the time of Al-Andalus. Not in vain, the Alpujarra was the place where the Nasrid kingdom was held after being defeated by the Catholic Monarchs in 1492. There the Moriscos remained for many more years, until they were finally expelled after the end of the Rebellion of the Alpujarras (1568-1.571) in which the Moorish population rose before the Pragmatic Sanction of 1567. In that edict, promulgated by Philip II, limited the religious and cultural freedoms of the Moors, to force them to abandon their customs and way of life to actually become Catholicism, or at least to appear. Today we see the reflection of the Muslim passage through the area in architecture, local cuisine, carpet weaving, agricultural landscape and, among other aspects, the presence of names of Arab origin.
